At Mum and Bump we are committed to provide care to suit your individual needs. As such, we are able to offer your antenatal appointments in either your own home, or if you prefer, one of our three beautiful clinics located in Wimbledon , Epsom or Cobham.
Mutually agreeable times will be arranged for your appointments, including evenings and weekends. We appreciate how valuable it is to have a partner, family member, or friend to accompany you, and how difficult it can be to leave work for an appointment- despite what the law says!
This flexibility means that you can totally relax, knowing you won't have to wait in a queue for your appointment, and that you will have the luxury of time rather than a rushed, tense few minutes.
Following an initial consultation when we can discuss care pathways, the first appointment will last approximately two hours.
This is a time to explore your medical, pregnancy, and social history, and any thoughts, feelings, expectations or concerns you may have.
Using our experience, the information you give us, and our specially designed pregnancy notes from the Perinatal Institute (UK), we then make a very accurate risk assessment.
Based on your individual preferences, together with you and your chosen companion(s) we can go ahead and plan your care. This of course might change as the need arises throughout your pregnancy.
The Midwife or doctor you book with will become your named carer throughout your pregnancy, (and in the case of the midwife will be the one who attends your baby's birth if this has been planned).
You will have approximately ten antenatal visits during your pregnancy depending on your needs, each will last about an hour. This is a lovely time to get to know your midwife and/or doctor, build up a trusting relationship and become friends. After the booking appointment you will have 24 hour telephone access to your midwives and/or doctor.
You will also meet a second midwife for 2 appointments from your 36 th week of pregnancy. This is because we always have a second midwife at the birth, and in case of extreme emergency when your named midwife could not be present as the primary carer, this midwife would take the lead.
Whether you wish to have your scans and blood tests privately or via NHS services (to which you are entitled) we can arrange these for you.
We are also able to put you in touch with various alternative therapy agents, e.g. herbalists, acupuncture specialist, reflexology practitioners and cranial osteopaths amongst others. Do ask.
