Frequently Asked Questions

Post natal

Q. Why do newborns need a vitamin k injection? Q. When can we resume a sexual relationship? Q. Why do baby's cry?

Crying is a baby's only form of communication. Newborns are helpless and crying will invite you to respond to their needs

Common reasons why a baby might cry are:
. Hunger.
Feeding needs will change as the baby grows, so offer them more milk if they are asking for it.
. Physical comfort.
Babies like to feel safe and warm
. Wind.
Having trapped wind will make the baby feel uncomfortable. Holding the baby upright and rubbing its back can help to relieve this.
. Temperature control.
Babies are not very good at regulating their body temperature so they may be too hot or too cold. Adjust their clothing accordingly.
. Over stimulation.
Loud noises, bright lights, a sudden sneeze or laughing can be too much for a newborn.
. Boredom.
Interaction and play are part of the learning process. Newborns will tend to eat and go straight back to sleep, but gradually they will be awake more, and will need some stimulation.
Hearing a new born cry can be distressing, but you will soon learn to recognise why the baby is crying. Trust your instincts in knowing what your baby's needs are and how to respond to them.
