Labour and Birth

Because you already have 24 hour access to your named midwife/doctor, contacting him/her when your labour starts is easy and stress free. You will be attended from start to finish by your named midwives/doctor.

Like all midwives Kim and Denise practice according to rules and laws, and are governed by the Nursing and Midwifery Council. (NMC) We are strictly regulated and both have a supervisor of midwives who assesses our suitability to practice, inspects our equipment, and is there for advice -amongst other things.

We are both very experienced, having worked for the NHS for a total of 24 years and have practised as midwives at the highest clinical grade.

In your own home we are able to practise in our full capacity- this means that we can care for you independently from the day you become pregnant to 28 days after birth. We carry all equipment, including emergency equipment required for birth at home.

Some of you will choose a hospital birth or birth in a birth centre.

The laws do change here. As independent midwives we can sometimes continue your care in hospital if an honorary contract is issued- some hospitals are better than others. If not, we can still be with you to offer advice, support, companionship and advocacy, and then continue your care afterwards. This also applies to those of you having a planned caesarean section for the birth.

Mr Shehata gives medical back up for Kim and Denise if required and will be attending and doing the birth for consultant-led clients.

Following the birth of your baby or twins, we will spend a little time ensuring that all is well before giving you some privacy to enjoy your new arrival with your loved ones.

Before we leave we will ensure that you are comfortable, confident in infant feeding (whatever your choice), and that you still have our contact numbers. (It has been known for the odd mobile phone to drop into the birthing pool!)

We will visit later that day or next day depending on time of baby's birth and individual needs.
